The Kooks have finally put fans out of their misery by announcing news of a new album.

Let’s Go Sunshine will be the band’s fifth studio album following on from 2014’s Listen. It is slated for release on August 31.

The 15 track LP is described as a “moving, energising and timelessly melodic record and incisive in its portrait of modern British urban life”.

Frontman Luke Pritchard said the band started with the aim of continuing the sound they set out on Listen, but soon scrapped the plans as it “wasn’t really The Kooks”.

He said: “This one was about defining who we are. We were asking the questions. It was a fractured start. We went into the studio in 2015, continuing down the path we set out on our last studio album Listen and discovered it wasn’t what we wanted to make and wasn’t really The Kooks. So we scrapped it and started again.

“Pritchard said the new songs document personal heartbreak and falling in love on what he believes is the band’s “most exciting album”.

He continued: “I really went on a mission to write the best songs I’d ever written before bringing them to the band. I stewed over every word. It had to be our Rubber Soul, Lola, Definitely Maybe. Proper British lineage. I came from a dark place at the start, had a lotta heartbreak, and then falling in love in the middle of the album...the lyrics reflect that.

“From Fractured And Dazed to No Pressure, it’s gotta be our most exciting album, and it should get you dancing.”

The Kooks’ released their debut album Inside In/Inside Out in 2006.

The new album comes fresh off the back of their recent sold-out UK arena tour and Best Of… album which marked their 10th anniversary. They also released new track Be Who You Are.
