You may know Elli Ingram's name from the song Heaven Knows, the Bond-theme moment on the latest Chase and Status album. You may also be aware of her thanks to a bit of viral marketing for her new five-track EP, The Doghouse, drawn in chalk on the pavements of Shoreditch this week.

The Brighton 20-year-old has, like so many singers these days, come to attention thanks to a guest spot on a big-name dance record, but her own music isn't going to leave her typecast as a clubland diva. It's slick, jazzy soul sung in a feline voice, summery and smooth.

She'll get first-glance Amy Winehouse and Adele comparisons, but I'd be more inclined to stick her next to the nu-soul Americans like Erykah Badu and Jill Scott. Complimentary comparisons all, though it looks, from her videos at least, like she has enough personality of her own to end up in a class of one.
