Bringing Hollywood to the RSC

The RSC'S new artistic director wants to bring an injection of Hollywood glamour to his company - and plans to produce the Bard, whom he describes as "a very horny writer", in film as well as theatre.

Michael Boyd, 47, a supporter of the £100 million plan to replace the Royal Shakespeare Company's Stratford theatre, would like it to become a flexible space both for film and traditional drama.

He added: "Nicole Kidman is a very good actress and I would not have any qualms about casting her."
