It's the dog's breakfast

10 April 2012

If large-scale, full-on classical ballet is not quite your scene, then you might like this tiny dance ensemble that looks every bit as interesting as its weirdly titled programme, A Dancing Dog's Breakfast (above), suggests.

For one night only, the all-American choreographic trio of Heidi Henderson, Donna Meierdiercks and Cathy Nicolai present recent compositions, as well as a film/dance/music excerpt from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival hit Jordan Town.

This curious piece features film from the Honey Brothers, dance from former Royal Ballet dancer Tom Sapsford, and music from the feted young British composer Errollyn Wallen. Wallen's music can also be heard in La Luga, recently composed for the Brodsky Quartet and choreographed by Donna Meierdiercks.

The packed mixed-bill also includes: the Simple Songs, a solo by Heidi Henderson set to Wallen's 'Beehive And Guru'; Siamese Dream, a duet by Meierdiercks and Nicolai; and two quartets from Henderson ? Skirt to Boccherini's 'Adagio For String Quartet In D', and Cloud Quartet to Siegfried Fink's percussion piece Pleasantries.

Described by Donna Meierdiercks as 'sprawling, absurd, elegant and womanly' and 'not like all the angsty work you see these days', this curious evening of indie work looks most promising.

A Dancing Dog's Breakfast, Wed 24 Jul, Purcell Room, South Bank, SE1 (020-7960 4242).
