New show will tell the lives of Brontë sisters through a rock documentary musical

Totally Wasted: The new play looks at the sisters through a rock documentary
Zoe Paskett4 May 2018

A new play about the Brontë sisters is coming to Southwark Playhouse.

Through the medium of a rock documentary, Wasted looks at the lives of the three Brontë sisters, Charlotte, Emily and Anne and their brother Branwell.

The story follows the family through their struggles growing up poverty-stricken in Yorkshire, and how it led to their publishing some of the most celebrated works of literature in British History, including Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights.

The rock theme will throw the sisters into a new light, viewing their rise from obscurity to fame through a lens of drug-fuelled fury and mortal struggle that ultimately lead to their early deaths. That’s some real 19th century drama.

Christopher Ash, who won an Olivier Award for his work on Showstoppers, is composing the rock score, while the book and lyrics come from Carl Miller. Adam Lenson takes on direction of the play.

Wasted with run September 6 to October 6 at Southwark Playhouse, southwarkplayhouse.co.uk
