New sponsor for comedy awards

10 April 2012

The Perrier Comedy Awards are to be renamed after 25 years. They will become known as the if.comeddies thanks to a new sponsorship deal with internet mortgage company Intelligent Finance.

The total prize fund will be increased and the profile of the event raised.
The awards take place every year as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and honour the best up-and-coming comics.

Past winners include Steve Coogan, Frank Skinner, Lee Evans and The League Of Gentlemen.

Announcing the new sponsorship deal at the Lyric Theatre in London's West End, awards director Nica Burns said: "After 25 years Perrier have handed over their comedy baton.

"We have taken a great deal of time and care in choosing our new sponsor. It was extremely important to us to find a company that was the right match to take these fantastic comedy awards into the future.

"Intelligent Finance is an exciting young company, a popular and important Scottish employer and, like the Comedy Awards, is rooted in Scotland but has a national profile."
