Nick Cave to score Young Vic’s devil of a show

Faustian pact: Cave writes for Vesturport
10 April 2012

Rock star Nick Cave has written the music for a new show which will be a highlight of the Young Vic's 40th birthday celebrations starting in September.

The singer has co-written the score for a new production of Goethe's Faust from Icelandic theatre company Vesturport. He had previously written music, with composer Warren Ellis, for its hit shows Metamorphosis and Woyzeck, as well as film scores including The Road and The Proposition.

Vesturport will use acrobatics and aerial display to give a new twist to the story of a man who makes a pact with the devil.

The anniversary will also see the British stage debut of award-winning French film director Patrice Chéreau, best known for films such as La Reine Margot and Intimacy, who will direct a new English version of I Am the Wind.

Other shows announced today include a revival of Tennessee Williams's The Glass Menagerie, an adaptation of DBC Pierre's Booker-winner Vernon God Little and a 100-strong cast appearing in The Human Comedy, a musical by Hair composer Galt MacDermot.
