It was one of the biggest TV hits of the year, and now it’s returning to the London stage where it first began life: Phoebe Waller-Bridge is bringing Fleabag back to Soho Theatre.

Telling the escapades of one woman’s life in her twenties, from exes to bad dates to losing her best friend, Fleabag aired on BBC Three and quickly became one of this year’s most popular series. It was originally written and performed as a one-woman play by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who will return to Soho to perform the role.

The production will be directed by Vicky Jones, who is co-artistic director of the DryWrite theatre company, alongside Waller-Bridge.

Fleabag started life at Soho Theatre in 2013, before the show went up to the Edinburgh Fringe. It won multiple awards, including a Fringe First and a Critics’ Circle award for most promising playwright.

Waller-Bridge said that “it’s impossible to get anything in front of an audience in this city without selling a limb,” but it was Soho Theatre that gave her both her writing and acting debut, without which she would never have had the chance to turn Fleabag into a TV show.
