Andrew Lloyd Webber has launched a “fishing expedition” to find a classroom full of talent for his latest West End show.

The man behind hits including Cats and Evita is bringing School Of Rock: The Musical to London after a sell-out run on Broadway. The show, based on the 2003 Jack Black film, is expected to open here next spring.

Rehearsals will be in London and children aged from eight to 12 who can sing and play guitar, bass, piano or drums are encouraged to apply. Lord Lloyd-Webber said: “This is a big fishing expedition. We need brilliantly talented children who can act, sing and play rock instruments. So no big deal!

“In the USA, more than 22,000 kids auditioned and we ended up with a band who can rock out with the best. We have to discover that band in Britain. So kids, get the metal out, strut the stuff and help us stick it to the man.”
