Stars to honour Pinter

Playwright Harold Pinter celebrated his 75th birthday last month.

The cream of Britain's acting talent is to honour playwright Harold Pinter. Sir Michael Gambon, Jeremy Irons, Charles Dance, Penelope Wilton, Sinead Cusack, Kenneth Cranham, Janie Dee and Stephen Rea will read Pinter's play Celebration at the Albery Theatre in St Martin's Lane.

The event on 1, 2 and 3 December will celebrate the author's winning of the Nobel Prize for Literature, and his 75th birthday last month.

It is being organised by Michael Colgan, artistic director at the Gate Theatre in London. "I didn't think it was right nothing was happening in London to honour Harold's achievements," he said. Pinter will attend all three nights.

Celebration, a comedy written in 2000, is set in a restaurant in London. Tickets at £28.50 are on sale on 0870 950 0920.
