Alesha Dixon has blamed Craig Revel Horwood's low marking for Aston Merrygold’s shock exit from Strictly Come Dancing.

The show’s former judge shared her thoughts on the controversy, claiming Revel Horwood’s score of four for his Viennese Waltz had “put the nail in the coffin” for Merrygold.

She tweeted: “Craig giving Aston a 4 basically put the nail in the coffin!

“Can’t believe one of the best dancers has left so soon!!! #Strictly.”

The former JLS bandmember had been a favourite to take home the coveted Glitterball trophy before he was booted off the competition on Sunday night’s results show following a dance off against The Saturday’s Mollie King.

Viewers slammed Shirley Ballas' decision to send Merrygold home, branding the show ‘a fix’.

Many agreed with Dixon that Revel Horwood’s score had been too low, with one Strictly fan tweeting: “Seems Aston was competition for judges favourites! A score of four was in no way deserved! #Strictly [sic].”

Others felt that head judge Ballas, who had the deciding vote, was the one to blame.

One viewer tweeted: “Can we vote Shirley Ballas off please! I’m so angry with her for voting Aston off. Wrong decision!! [sic].”

Dixon was previously a member of the BBC ballroom show’s judging panel for three series from 2009-2012, appearing alongside Revel Horwood, Bruno Tonioli and former head judge Len Goodman.
