Amir Khan became the subject of a Twitter storm when he queried whether or not there had ever been a female Prime Minister on I’m A Celebrity.

The champion boxer was mercilessly mocked by viewers and campmates when he asked if a woman had ever lead the UK during Sunday's show.

After Georgia Toffolo was appointed as the jungle’s deputy Prime Minister, he asked: “Has a woman ever become Prime Minister?”

Looking at him in disbelief, his fellow campmates quickly reminded him of Margaret Thatcher and current PM, Theresa May.

“Oh, Margaret Thatcher. S***,” the sportsman said. “Oh and Theresa May.”

Apparently forgetting that the entire conversation was being broadcast live on television, Khan added: “Guys, don’t tell no one that.”

As well as being mocked for his lack of knowledge, a number of fans slammed Khan for his ‘casual sexism’.

"Is Amir Khan serious what idiot would legitimately think that in this day and age a woman couldn't be prime minister,” one person wrote on Twitter.

“I genuinely don't understand the rallying of Amir Khan. I find he lacks intelligence, he's mildly sexist, naive, simple-minded, ignorant and just extremely dim. And no, I don't find any of those attributes endearing,” posted another.

One viewer wrote: “Amir khan asks if there has ever been a woman Prime Minister. He is neither witty nor clever. A shameless lack of education is nothing to be proud of. Obviously has no idea Women also died for our votes.”

Others weren’t too happy about the fact that Khan described Toffolo as a “little girl” while she showed off her Kung Fu skills.

Khan had a rocky start to his stay in the camp, pulling out of his first Bushtucker Trail, but went on to redeem himself in later challenges.
