Singer Kyle Tomlinson and magic/mind-reading act DNA became the first acts to make it through to the live final of Britain’s Got Talent on Monday night.

DNA came first in the public vote after their elaborate mind-reading trick wowed the judges and audience, despite Simon Cowell struggling with part of the performance that required him to find a word in the dictionary.

“Thanks everyone” the pair said. “It means so much”.

15-year-old Tomlinson’s rendition of When We Were Young by Adele earned him the runner up spot just behind the magicians.

The singer was lost for words when Ant and Dec announced he’d been successful and would be appearing in the live final.

Placing just behind DNA and Kyle Tomlinson were girl band Miss Treat Vibe whose cover of Mary Mary’s Shackles wen’t down a treat with the judges, impressing former Mis-Teeq member Alesha Dixon in particular. However, it wasn’t enough to take them through to the last stage.

The first of the live semi-finals wasn’t without controversy after a technical glitch saw Britain's Got Talent accused of cheating on social media. The act at the centre of the miming scandal, St Patrick’s Junior Choir, didn’t progress to the final.

Dancing policeman PC Dan, street dancers Empire Dance Crew, knife-throwing act Tyrone and Mina and magician Niels Harder were also knocked out of the competition.

The next live semi-final will air on Tuesday May 30 at 7.30pm on ITV.
