Celebrity Big Brother’s 'punchgate' scandal has topped the list of most-complained about shows in 2018.

Ofcom has revealed that they received a massive 27,602 complaints about the reality show, with the majority relating to Roxanne Pallett accusing Ryan Thomas of “punching” her.

The Channel 5 series saw Pallett hysterically crying in the Diary Room before calling for Thomas to be removed, days before she left the house voluntarily.

But the allegations and aftermath attracted scores of complaints to the media watchdog, with reports suggesting over 25,000 were filed.

Loose Women came in second place on the list with 8,002 complaints, with most relating to an explosive interview with Kim Woodburn and Coleen Nolan.

The stars – who had previously feuded on CBB – were hoping to sort out their differences but things spiralled when Woodburn became upset and stormed off air.

Ofcom said it is "investigating both programmes to determine whether potentially offensive content was editorially justified and placed into appropriate context".

Sky News is third on the list with 4,251 complaints, of which more than 3,000 are for alleged bias in the editing of an interview with controversial figure Tommy Robinson.

Love Island placed fourth with 4,192 complaints, many of which refer to Dani Dyer's break down on camera.

Fans were outraged at the decision to not tell Dyer that Fincham had remained loyal to her, opting to sleep outside alone and talking about how much he loved her.

Tony Close, Ofcom's director of content standards, licensing & enforcement, said: "Viewers are as passionate about what they watch as ever, discussing programmes with their friends and family, and with other people on social media.

"They complain to us when they think programmes have fallen below the standards they expect, and we carefully assess each and every complaint we receive. This year, we've taken action on many occasions where programmes have fallen short of the standards required by our rules."

Last year the equivalent figure was 16,068 complaints about radio and TV programmes, while this year's figure stands at almost 56,000. The nearly 40,000 increase in volume of complaints has been driven by Celebrity Big Brother and Loose Women.
