Classic Mary Berry viewers accuse her of 'fat-shaming' chef on latest episode

Some viewers weren't happy about her comments to chef Nathan Outlaw

Viewers have accused Mary Berry of fat-shaming a chef on the latest episode of her cooking show.

Berry was joined by Michelin-starred chef Nathan Outlaw to taste test some pickled walnuts, with the TV cook saying she preferred the snack to chocolate.

As she and Outlaw chatted, he revealed that he enjoyed surfing which led to a comment from Berry that didn’t go down well on social media.

She asked: “You, surfing?”

The former Bake Off judge then went on to joke about how much force Outlaw would need to use to crush some garlic.

Fans of the show shared their surprise at the remarks on social media:

One wrote: “Wow how many times is Mary Berry going to fat shame tonight?! #maryberry”

Another posted: “So, #MaryBerry thinks it’s funny to fat shame the chef when he says he likes surfing.”

“How rude was #MaryBerry about #NathanOutlaw's size when he said he surfed?” tweeted a third.

It’s not the first time Berry has surprised viewers with her behaviour on the cooking show.

She recently raised eyebrows by flirting with Swedish chef Niklas Ekstedt.

As the pair prepared to barbecue some food together, Ekstedt knelt down to turn on the cooker, prompting Berry to joke “It’s a long time since I’ve had a man on his knees in front of me.”

Classic Mary Berry continues Mondays at 8.30pm on BBC One.
