Coleen Nolan has addressed her split from husband Ray Fensome on Loose Women, saying the decision was 'really hard

The panel show opened with an emotional Nolan discussing the reasons behind the breakup.

“It’s been really hard and it’s still really fresh, we’ve only just filed. He’s only just moved out," she said.

"I said at the beginning of last year we were having issues. We really really tried. It gets to a point where you think, we’ve tried it’s not working. Life has done that, we’re not going to get it back together.

The presenter also revealed that she hadn’t felt able to ‘lie’ and so had decided to go public with the news.

“I’m trying to see it now and I don’t want to cry but it happens but instead of staying with someone because I’m scared, I’m 53, do I want to be on my own at 53? But I see it as a new chapter, it’s exciting for him and for me.

“I feel like all of you and the viewers at home have experienced it with me, and I couldn’t sit here and lie or let people write things in the media. I just had to say it so we could move on.”

Nolan announced her split from Fensome, her husband of 10 years earlier today, writing in her Daily Mirror column: "There is too much dividing me and Ray. We can’t go back."

“Me and my husband Ray are divorcing. I wanted to tell you first as I can hardly sit here and keep dishing out advice if I’m not being totally straight about what is going on in my own life,” she said.

She described the past 12 months of relationship difficulties as "hellish" but said she and Fensome "owed it to [themselves] to be happy."

"We owe it to ourselves. And we also owe it to our kids to show them that everyone has a right to be happy."

She continued: "My beautiful kids, Shane Jnr, Jake and Ciara – my daughter with Ray – have all been unbelievably supportive and understanding."

Loose Women continues weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
