Coronation Street fans were reduced to tears by scenes of David Platt struggling to cope in the aftermath of his rape.

In Monday’s episode of the ITV soap, the hair stylist woke up the morning after the assault, still in pain to discover a note from Josh Tucker.

A devastated-looking Platt returned home and was seen showering and disposing of the clothes he was wearing as he tried to come to terms with what had happened to him.

Viewers found the scenes emotional to watch, sharing their reaction on social media.

One wrote: “Poor David. This storyline is heart-breaking and makes me sick to my stomach, however it highlights a major problem that is happening in this world. I have so much respect for Coronation Street for creating this storyline and showing men can be victims of abuse too.”

Another commented: “Almost in tears at David’s storyline in Coronation Street. It’s horrible.”

“Very emotional to watch Corrie’s David, hopefully raising awareness of abuse helping more people,” tweeted a third.

“Finally caught up with last night’s #Corrie. What an emotional storyline with David’s rape. He is giving some impressive pieces of acting and are really getting the effects over to the audience but also very sad to watch.

"Great job @JackPShepherd88,” posted another.

As the episode continued, Platt was forced to come face to face with his attacker as Tucker turned up at his house.

Platt was so disgusted by the sight of his attacker that he ran outside to vomit, and Tucker later admitted to having spiked his drink.

He told Tucker: "I know what you did and I can still feel it. You're twisted."

Coronation Street continues Wednesday, March 21 at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
