Coronation Street’s Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine) and Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) are reportedly set to become the new Jack and Vera Duckworth.

Bosses are said to be writing an up and down relationship for the pair, mirroring that of Jack and Vera’s in the ‘80s and ‘90s.

Stape and Dobbs already live in the Duckworths’ house after the Corrie legends took Tyrone in as a child.

It’s hoped that giving McAlpine and Halsall major storylines will provide some light relief after recent criticism of the ITV soap for being ‘too dark’.

A source told The Daily Star: “Producers have been listening to the criticism and are beginning to change the fabric of the show.

“Their plans for Fiz and Tyrone should keep fans happy, at least for a bit.”

Stape’s return to the series will see her embroiled in a big fight with partner Dobbs after discovering he has been cheating on her with Gemma Winter.

Stape will reportedly take revenge by having an affair of her own, just as Vera did in the ‘80s.

McAlpine told the publication: “I think we have to have a bit of tit for tat. I will be speaking to the casting department.”

Coronation Street continues Monday, March 5 at 7.30pm on ITV.
