Dancing On Ice viewers were left feeling very emotional after Brian McFadden was axed from the show on Sunday night.

The former Westlife star narrowly missed out on his place in the final three as he skated against former X Factor star Saara Aalto.

Despite an impressive evening that saw McFadden and professional partner Alex Murphy bag 36.5 for their routine to the Beach Boys’ Then I Kissed Her, the pair took a dramatic tumble during their skate-off performance.

Although the pair got off to a strong start as they skated to Elton John’s Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me, McFadden dropped Murphy after struggling to complete a lift, leaving the duo face-down on the ice.

The error proved too much for the judges with Jason Gardiner admitting the outcome would have been “different” had they not fallen.

On his exit, McFadden said: “It’s been amazing, we’ve had such a great time.”

However, viewers were less than impressed to see McFadden leaving, with many admitting they had been left in tears.

One user wrote: “Ohh my gosh, no Brian, could of cried for you, you've done so well, proud of you, well done for getting back up with a smile on your face.”

“Gutted he would have got through aswell, “ said another.

A third added: “Oh I could b***** cry for Brian right now.”

McFadden’s exit saw fellow contestant Aalto take the final spot in next week’s dramatic finale, alongside Wes Nelson and James Jordan, who scored two rounds of 40 out of 40 in a picture-perfect evening.

Dancing On Ice continues Sunday at 6pm on ITV.
