'Annoying': Dancing on Ice viewers have slated new commentator Matt Chapman

Dancing on Ice viewers have slated the skating show’s commentator, Matt Chapman, branding the new addition ‘annoying’ and ‘cringe-worthy’.

The reality show returned to ITV after a four-year hiatus, with a fresh look and format, bringing Chapman on board to replace previous commentator Tony Gubba, who died in 2013.

But fans of the show were unimpressed with his skills, complaining on social media that he was 'shouting' and talking about horse racing rather than ice skating.

“Still cringing at the commentator. There is so much mentioning of horseracing. It’s Dancing on Ice!! His voice isn’t soft enough either for this show,” one person wrote.

“‘Why does the Dancing on Ice commentator sound like he should be commentating on the darts?” asked another.

“The only thing that’s ruining Dancing on Ice is that really annoying commentator, stop pls,” tweeted a third.

Chapman decided to respond to the feedback, sharing a post thanking fans for their comments and vowing to ‘win over’ those who weren’t convinced.

He wrote on Twitter: “Hey people thanks for loads of kind comments @dancingonice. Quite a night. And for those thinking: “Who the hell was that?” Will try to win you over in next 9 shows. #life #fun #newchallenge”

Elsewhere on the show, Candice Brown shocked viewers by kissing her partner Matt Evers on the lips.

One said: “Was that just my eyesight or did Candice and Matt just fully kiss?”

But Brown also took to Twitter to shut down suggestions she had ‘snogged’ her partner, posing for a picture with Evers and her fiancée Liam McCaulay both kissing her on the cheek.

‘Snogging’ my two favourite boys @Dennisthepug @The MattEvers Thank you for being my left and right”.

Dancing on Ice continues Sunday, January 14 at 6pm on ITV.
