The 2020 Emmy nominations will be announced today (July 28), revealing the cream of the crop from the past year in television.

The announcement will reveal who is in the running for coveted slots such as Outstanding Drama Series and the lead actor and actress categories for drama and comedy.

How to watch the Emmy Nominations live stream

The virtual event announcing the nominees for the 72nd Emmy Awards can be live streamed at 4:30pm on the Television Academy’s website, YouTube page and Facebook page.

The virtual event is being hosted by Saturday Night Live comedian Leslie Jones.

The nominations will be revealed by celebrity presenters such as Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), Josh Gad (Frozen), Laverne Cox (Orange is the New Black) and Television Academy CEO Frank Scherma.

The actual 2020 Emmys are dated for Saturday, September 20, with late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel set to host the event.

It is not yet known whether the event will be virtual or in-person.

Fans can expect favourite shows such as Ozark, Succession and Mrs America to be in the running for various categories.

With Game of Thrones no longer dominating the awards ceremony, other prestige dramas such as Westworld, The Morning Show and Dead to Me may have more of a chance to elbow their way to wins.

Due to the dates of the Emmys’ eligibility requirements, 2019 shows such as the second season of Big Little Lies and the third season of The Handmaid’s Tale are also in the running for this year’s awards.

In the comedy categories, shows such as Schitt’s Creek, Ramy and The Good Place are in with a fighting chance.
