Lucie Jones has been named as the UK’s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017.

The former X Factor contestant will be venturing to Kiev later this year to perform in the live finals.

The 25 year-old from Cardiff edged ahead of five other candidates, winning a public vote in BBC show Eurovision: You Decide.

Jones’ song is called Never Give Up On You, and is a low-key piano ballad.

“I can’t believe you picked me,” she said in shock after her name was read out by presenter Mel Giedroyc. “Thank you so much.”

Jones made it to the finals of The X Factor in 2009 in the Girls category, where she was mentored by Dannii Minogue.

She is set to star in the lead role of a production of Legally Blonde: The Musical in Leicester, and has formerly played Victoria in the America Psycho musical, and Molly in Ghost.

Jones beat singers Nate Simpson, Salena Mastroianni, Danyl Johnson, Holly Brewer, and Olivia Garcia to become the UK’s Eurovision entry. All the prospective UK acts performed live at the Hammersmith Apollo to earn public votes.

The Eurovision Song Contest final is due to take place on May 13.
