Don’t Tell The Bride wedding cancelled for first time after couple broke the rules

Series first: It's the only wedding in 12 series of the show to have been called off

A wedding on Don’t Tell The Bride has been called off for the first time in the show’s history after the couple broke the rules.

The E4 series sees grooms organise a wedding in just three weeks with a budget of £13,000 and no communication with the bride, who cannot contribute in planning the ceremony.

Sunday night’s episode sees Yanis and Shanise from Birmingham left “heartbroken” when producers cancel their wedding after learning that the bride was aware that the groom planned to fly her to Paris.

The Don’t Tell The Bride team reportedly became suspicious when the groom, who had planned to fly the bride and just 13 guests to Paris for the ceremony before returning to Birmingham for the reception, had a sudden change of heart about the guest list.

Yanis seemed to quickly change his mind about inviting Shanise’s 10-year-old brother Chris to the intimate ceremony.

Bridesmaid Melissa was then informed over the phone by the groom that she would not be able to attend the Paris ceremony, prompting Shanise to ask: “He’s had £13,000. Where’s the money gone?”

Another bridesmaid then accidentally revealed secret communication between the couple, telling her: “The only thing is he’s booked it in Paris.”

A teaser clip obtained by MailOnline shows producers confront Yanis and the bridesmaids, telling them: “We normally would do a bridesmaids reveal but it’s come to our attention that the secret appears to be out and the bridal party know about some of the plans for the wedding.”

Yanis then admitted that his fiancee had access to his iPad with his emails on. “So technically the bride wasn’t told, she found out through email,” he said.

In scenes filmed one week after the producers called off the wedding, Shanise claimed that the experience had been “heartbreaking.”

Yanis added: “I try not to think about it. I’m trying to detach myself from the whole situation and what’s happened. I understand what Shanise did… I don’t agree with it. It wasn’t the right thing to do.”

Don’t Tell The Bride airs Sunday, October 6 on E4 at 9pm.
