Viewers will be introduced to life beyond the Coronation Street cobbles

It’s all change on the cobbles as Coronation Street viewers have been given a first look at life beyond the famous street.

Roys Rolls, the kebab shop and Yasmeen Nazir’s community centre are currently the only notable establishments on neighbouring Victoria Street – but show bosses have unveiled a major redesign featuring a new retail area and an urban garden.

New additions include a police station, a tattoo parlour, a snooker hall and Weatherfield North tram stop which has the original handles from the first Rovers Return pub.

There is an additional ginnel, new restaurant Speed Daal owned by Zeedan Nazir, and a council office.

Roy Cropper and Dev Alahan will no doubt feel the impact of high street chains Costa and Co-op which have also moved in as part of a product placement deal.

Show bosses have also paid tribute Corrie super fan Martyn Hett who was one of the victims of the Ariana Grande concert bombing last May.

His name features on a bench in the new urban garden and allotment area which remembers those who lost their lives.

Hett’s family were the first people to see the new set last week during a private visit.

The new set is made from cobbles reclaimed from the old Quay Street site which was home to the residents of Coronation Street from 1982 to 2013.

Kate Oates, series producer, said: “The Victoria Street extension represents an exciting chapter in Corrie history: an amazing new stage, full of dramatic potential.

“Our amazingly talented design team have created everything from scratch - but it still manages to have the feeling of always having been there, just around the corner.”

‘Wider Weatherfield’ will be seen on screen for the first time on Friday, April 20.

Coronation Street is on ITV, tonight at 7:30pm
