The question that has loomed over Game of Thrones fans for nearly a year (and Song of Ice and Fire readers since 2011) has finally been answered.

Ever since he was stabbed by members of the Night’s Watch, viewers have speculated whether Jon Snow had really been killed off.

WARNING: MAJOR SEASON 6 EPISODE 2 SPOILERS AHEAD

As it turned out, Snow was revived at the hands of Melisandre at the end of Season 6 Episode 2, Home.

While actor Kit Harington repeatedly stated in interviews that he was not returning – and would only appear on screen as a corpse – he was spotted filming the series in Belfast and notably did not cut off his long shaggy Jon Snow hair-do.

Now he’s spoken about having to keep the secret of Snow’s return – and claims that this will actually be his “biggest” season yet.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Harington apologised: “I’d like to say sorry for lying to everyone. I’m glad that people were upset that he died. I think my biggest fear was that people were not going to care. Or it would just be, ‘Fine, Jon Snow’s dead.’ But it seems like people had a, similar to the Red Wedding episode, kind of grief about it. Which means something I’m doing — or the show is doing — is right.”

He also said that Snow “features very prominently” in the upcoming episodes.

“I was told that when I was told I was coming back – that the season I was coming back for would be my biggest, and that’s quite a lot to take as well.”

So what’s next now that Jon Snow is back? A sneak preview clip of Episode 3 indicates that the Wildlings and the Night’s Watch will learn of his revival – but how will they respond? It’s going to be a long week waiting to find out.
