Manon Lagreve has become the latest contestant to be eliminated from the Great British Bake Off, narrowly missing out on the semi-final.

Manon failed to impress the judges during Danish Week after spending “too much time on sweets” instead of perfecting her pastries, which accidentally turned out French instead.

Speaking about her exit, she said: “I love Denmark, I have been twice to Copenhagen, and my best friend is Danish but none of that helped me!

“Every week I remained in the tent was a bonus and to be a quarter finalist, well that for me was a huge personal achievement. I didn't make it to Patisserie week, and that’s a shame as that is what we French are known for.”

This year’s quarter-final saw the first ever Danish Week take place with all five of contestants struggling, especially with their pastries, during the challenges.

Several of the bakers were reduced to tears as the pressure got too much, with Kim-Joy burst into tears after her showstopper was criticised by Leith and Hollywood while Briony sobbed after the first challenge.

It was Ruby who managed to bag Star Baker after successfully navigating the three hard tasks. Rahul found himself nearly in danger of going, at one point even declaring he “didn’t deserve to be there”.

Ditching their usual attire, the bakers donned the loud shirts to remember the Welshman show as given the boot after Vegan Week, missing out on the quarter-final.

Ruby, Kim-Joy, Rahul, Briony and Manon all walked into the tent sporting their one-week-only look while the judges and hosts joked that they had “missed the memo”

And viewers couldn’t handle the sweet gesture, quickly rushing to social media to discuss the close bond that appears to have emerged within the group.

The Great British Bake Off continues Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 4.
