Former Great British Bake Off contestant Iain Watters had Baked Alaska for his wedding cake – despite being at the centre of the dramatic ‘bingate scandal’.

The frozen pudding lost Watters his place on the 2014 series after fellow contestant Diana Beard accidentally removed it from a freezer.

Watters’ creation collapsed after being left out in a hot tent and in a fit of rage he threw the melting dessert in the bin as a shocked Sue Perkins looked on.

Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry sent him packing as he had nothing for them to judge at the end of the show.

But despite the dessert costing him his place in the competition, Watters chose to have it as his wedding cake when he married his long-term girlfriend Catriona last week.

The newlyweds were joined by a host of contestants from the 2014 series, including Beard.

The 72-year-old was accused of sabotaging Watters by viewers and later left the show due to ill health – but clearly Watters hasn’t held a grudge.

Nancy Birtwhistle posted a picture of Watters and Beard on his wedding day as well as a picture of a sturdy Baked Alaska.

Finalist Richard Burr, Chetna Makan and Kate Henry were also in attendance.

The current series hasn't had any scandals but Biscuit Week proved challenging for some contestants who were unable to support their giant gingerbread structures.

Val's Statue of Liberty broke in two and Louise's Welsh church crumbled seconds before time was up leaving her with a broken creation to present to Hollywood and Berry.
