Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield struggled to keep a straight face on This Morning after they met the "real life Doctor Dolittle".

New York-based Sue Pike is an “Animal Communicator” who joined the show to demonstrate with a skunk, an armadillo and a sloth that she can tell what animals are thinking and feeling.

Sue explained that she could communicate with the animals telepathically and also by reaching out to them and channelling their thoughts.

A sceptical Schofield struggled through the segment as he fought to keep a straight face.

Sue said: “What happens is, first we do it telepathic and as a channel, I either channel from their spirit or soul or their spirit guides.

“A lot of times animals have a deep message for people.” She then expressed the feelings of Flash the skunk, Flo the armadillo and Talita the sloth.

And while the hosts may have been staving off their laughter, viewers at home certainly weren’t as they tweeted about the “hilarious” segment.

One wrote: “Dear @thismorning, are you winding me up with this woman talking to animals? #ThisMorning.”

Another commented: “@Schofe is looking at this woman like she is absolutely bat**** crazy! #ThisMorning.”

A third tweeted: “How @hollywills & @Schofe manage to keep a straight face I’ll never know! @thismorning #RealLifeDrDolittle #ThisMorning.”
