Gerard Vowles fought the attackers with pint glasses, beer bottles and stools

Holly Willoughby was left in shock as a London Bridge survivor told of how he used make-shift weapons to keep attackers at bay during the London Bridge and Borough Market incidents on Saturday night.

Speaking on Monday’s This Morning, Gerard Vowles explained how he’d thrown pint glasses, bottles and bar stools to try and fend off the terrorists.

The presenters looked horrified as the victim described his ordeal.

Despite facing an attack from the three jihadis moments after they drove a van into pedestrians on London Bridge, Vowles escaped shaken but unharmed.

The terrorists left the vehicle and ran through the streets and into bars stabbing revellers indiscriminately. Londoner Vowles said the knifemen “didn’t even look human”.

“There was hate in their eyes. I was throwing chairs, glasses… I was scared. I didn’t want anyone to die”, he said.

He also revealed his shock upon noticing the attackers suicide belts, but he said he soon realised they were fake.

The victim was leaving The Ship pub in Borough when he saw a woman who had been stabbed lying on the floor, pleading for help.

He admitted he didn’t know what had happened to her but expressed a wish to be reunited if she has managed to survive the attack.

Seven people died and around 50 were injured on Saturday night when three terrorist attackers drove a hired van into pedestrians on London Bridge, before moving on to the Borough Market area where they exited the vehicle and roamed the streets attacking passers-by.

All three jihadis were shot dead by police within eight minutes of the first emergency call.
