Is this the most awkward First Dates ending EVER? Viewers left cringing after surprise twist

Viewers of First Dates Ireland were shocked by dater Siobhan's change of heart at the end of her date

There are few things more awkward than a first date gone wrong, as last night’s episode of First Dates Ireland proved.

Aidan from Tralee, County Kerry and Siobhan from Youghal, County Cork didn’t quite hit it off during the first episode in the latest season of RTE’s take on the hit Channel Four dating show, with Aidan forgetting his date’s name and paying more attention to another female participant.

During the pair’s post-date interview, however, things went from bad to worse, as it was revealed that Aidan had completely failed to understand his date’s feelings towards him.

When a producer asked him whether he’d be keen to meet up with Siobhan outside the First Dates restaurant, he answered: “I don’t think I was what she was looking for, is the answer to your question.”

As his date sat down beside him to complete the interview, he told her: “You know when you know a girl doesn’t fancy you, I know you don’t fancy me so I feel like there’s probably a better geezer out there for you. Is that a good answer?”

Siobhan then left her love interest gobsmacked as she revealed: “I would’ve said I would’ve liked to see him romantically again, yeah.”

“How do you know when a girl fancies you?” she went on to ask. “Because they’re all over you, yeah?

“Doesn’t take a girl to be all over you to fancy you, but I’m not the kind of girl to throw myself at someone either.”

Siobhan was praised by commenters, who claimed that the reality hopeful “deserved much better.”

“He might be a nice guy but he doesn’t come across very well,” one Facebook user wrote. “Lovely girl and she deserves so much better.”

“Literally the funniest thing I’ve ever seen,” another fan posted.

“What a muppet,” a third added, while one claimed that Aidan had “done himself no favours at all.”

Despite their painfully awkward confrontation, the pair eventually agreed to give things another shot with a second date.

First Dates airs on Channel Four in the UK and on RTE2 in Ireland.
