Anton Du Beke and Katie Derham have hit back at claims they were unfairly put through to the Strictly Come Dancing final in a ‘fix’.

Viewers accused the judges of saving the pair over Anita Rani and Gleb Savchenko who, despite a higher score, were sent home on Sunday night’s results show.

Others claimed the producers used dry ice to disguise Derham’s poor footwork.

But the dancing duo hit back at claims on Chris Evans' BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show on Tuesday.

Speaking to Evans, Derham said: “Chris, like you I've worked for the BBC for a very long time. That sort of stuff just doesn't, cannot, wouldn't happen.

"It can't! Too many people keeping an eye on all the Ts being crossed and the Is being dotted. And also, can I just say, how can it be fixed when it's mostly the public voting?"

Du Beke added: "Forget it! Forget it! It's impossible!"

Derham and Du Beke performed the waltz to O Mio Babbino Caro by Giacomo Puccini in the dance-off which saw Rani and Savchenko perform the salsa to Feel This Moment by Pitbull feat Christina Aguilera.

Speaking about the way the competition is judged, Du Beke explained: "The dance-off is judged on the dance that you put in front of the judges. That's the moment when they've got to go, actually I prefer that to that. And the dance-off went well. There were no mistakes."

This weekend will mark the first time in 11 years that Du Beke – who has previously been partnered with Nancy Dell'Olio and Ann Widdecombe – has secured a place in the final. In the past he has been eliminated much earlier in the competition.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One on Saturday night for the final at 6:35pm.
