After weeks of romantic antics, Love Island came to an end with a final that saw Nathan Massey and Cara De La Hoyde bag the top prize.

The duo paired up on the very first day of ITV2’s reality series, where contestants need to stay in a couple to remain on the show.

While there was plenty of bed-swapping in the series, Nathan and Cara stayed with each other for the full five weeks.

He even declared his love for her, saying: “I’m a man that don’t show his emotions but the journey me and Cara have been on, means a lot to me. I love Cara, and I mean it.”

Despite four couples making it through to the final, Nathan and Cara pulled in 54% of the public vote in a landslide victory. They won the £50,000 grand prize, which they chose to split between them.

In second place were Alex Bowen and Olivia Buckland, edging ahead of former fan favourites Scott Thomas and Kady McDermott who placed third. Adam Maxted and Katie Salmon came in last.

While fans of the show are likely itching to see whether Nathan and Cara continue their budding romance from the series, a follow-up episode is due to air on Sunday July 17.

Titled Love Island: Heading Home, the special spin-off will see the couples attend the series wrap party, and reflect on their time in the show.
