Megan Barton Hanson has claimed “naïve” Sherif Lanre must have done something “serious” to get booted out of Love Island.

But reality star Barton Hanson – who found fame on last year’s show – thinks that Sherif’s offence must have been something “serious” to get him removed from the popular series by bosses, even if the departure was a “mutual agreement”.

“I reckon he must have done some something SERIOUS, God knows what it was,” Barton Hanson wrote in her column for The Sun.

“I'm totally baffled. I don't know what on earth it could have been. I know it's a lot to go into with a show like this and you've got to be willing to stick to all the rules and regulations.”

The model branded Sherif “naïve” for “trying to get away with something” while being watched by 24/7.

“They've got a show to make so even when you're off you're being followed because they don't want to miss any news or secret chats,” she added.

“Earlier today following conversations with producers Sherif left the villa,” he said on the show. “But for the other islanders it’s another day in paradise.”

Uncoupled: Anna Vakili is now single after Sherif Lanre's hasty exit

Viewers, who had tuned in to find out the details, said they were “fuming” after the brief mention and were left speculating over his exit.

In a statement, Sherif, who has left Anna Vakili single, said he “regretted” that he “didn’t conduct himself in the right way” and put his removal down to “poor judgement”.

He said: “In a case of poor judgement, I broke the villa rules and as a result agreed with the producers that it was best for me to leave the villa.

“I regret that I didn’t conduct myself in the right way and, as a 20 year old guy, it’s something I know I will take on board and learn from. I really enjoyed my time in the villa and look forward to catching up with everyone on the outside.”
