The BBC has axed crime thriller Hard Sun, starring model Agyness Deyn, after just one series as the pre-apocalyptic thriller failed to hit the high notes.

The channel confirmed to The Sun that the six-part drama penned by Luther writer Neil Cross had been canned after its short series.

The network said: “We sometimes have to make difficult decisions to make room for new shows. Hard Sun won’t be returning for a second series.”

The Sunday night series was the first major prime-time role for model Deyn, who starred as DI Elaine Renko alongside Jim Sturgess as DCI Charlie Hicks.

Episode one pulled in respectable viewing figures with people hoping the drama would fill the Idris Elba-shaped gap in their lives, being that it was written by the same person.

However, viewing figures plummeted after the rest of the series was also placed on BBC iPlayer.

Despite being left on a cliffhanger, Hard Sun fans will be left to make up their own minds about what happened next after hopes of a sequel were dashed.

Meanwhile, the BBC is set to air its raunchiest drama yet with Wanderlust, starring Toni Collette and Luther star Steven Mackintosh.
