The news that MasterChef fans have been waiting all year for is finally here – the date that the main series will be returning to BBC One.

Best of all, there’s not long at all to wait, as the show is back in just over a week.

Confirming the date on Twitter, the official MasterChef UK account revealed that the series will be back on Wednesday March 23.

While Celebrity MasterChef and MasterChef: The Professionals have kept fans ticking over, the main series is the one to get really excited about.

40 amateur chefs will be entering the kitchen hoping to impress Gregg Wallace and John Torode, taking on a series of tricky challenges – remember: cooking doesn’t get tougher than this.
