August promises to be another bountiful month for Netflix, with comedy specials, returning series and new original films on the way from the streaming service.

There’s fantasy, reality TV and dystopian fiction on the way, with titles arriving from all over the world.

Read on to find out everything we know so far about what’s coming to Netflix in August…

Sam Jay: 3 in the Morning - August 4

Boston comedian Sam Jay’s first solo Netflix special is arriving on the platform on August 4.

After making her Netflix debut on The Comedy Lineup Part 1, the Saturday Night Live writer returns with an hour-long special filmed in Atlanta, Georgia, set to be brimming with her trademark candid comedy.

The Rain season 3 - August 6

This Danish post-apocalyptic series comes to a conclusion in 2020 with its third and final series premiering on August 6.

The show follows a group of young people navigating a world in which a devastating virus has been transported via rainfall.

The Seven Deadly Sins season 4 - August 6

Japanese anime series The Seven Deadly Sins returns with its fourth season in August.

Work It - August 7

Work It is an upcoming coming of age film following a young girl who must win a dance competition to get into the college of her dreams. She recruits a troupe of dancers to help her out, and finds her life changed by the experience.

Selling Sunset season 3 - August 7

Netflix

Netflix’s sleeper hit reality series returns in August, offering more insight into the cutthroat world of real estate in Los Angeles.

The third season arrives just three months after the second premiered in May, with cast member Amanza Smith telling Women’s Health that they managed to finish filming the third season in the nick of time.

“We finished filming our show literally the day before the lockdown," she said. "If we would have only had one day of filming left, we would have still had to wait this whole time and the show wouldn't have been able to have been edited and out. We got very lucky."

The New Legends of Monkey season 2 - August 7

An Australian-New Zealand co-production, this fantasy series returns over two years after its first season arrived in 2018.

Wizards: Tales of Arcadia - August 7

Guillermo Del Toro’s animated sci-fi kids series returns with Wizards, the follow up to Trollhunters and 3below.

In Wizards, a wizard-in-training and other heroes of Arcadia go on a time-bending adventure to medieval Camelot, where they become embroiled in a battle of supernatural forces that threatens life itself.

The Great Heist - August 14

This new Colombian series arrives on Netflix on August 14, telling the true story of a real-life 1994 bank robbery on the Bank of Republic in Colombia.

Known as The Robbery of the Century, robbers took 24 billion Colombian pesos (£26 million) from the Bank of the Republic, Colombia’s central bank in the city of Valledupar.

The series looks set to lure in fans of Netflix’s major international hit, Money Heist.

Project Power - August 14

An upcoming original film starring Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Project Power is a sci-fi thriller from the directors of Catfish and Paranormal Activity 3 & 4.

The film imagines a drug epidemic where a new drug going around gives its users superpowers.

John Was Trying to Contact Aliens - August 20

This documentary short won best short film at Sundance Film Festival in January 2020, and was acquired by Netflix alongside a handful of other short films.

It follows John Shephard, a man who has devoted most of his life to trying to contact aliens.

Lucifer season 5 - August 21

The first half of the fifth season of Lucifer is arriving on Netflix on August 21, with the show now taking on an expanded episode count to pack in more action than ever.

Netflix renewed the series for a fifth season of 16 episodes, and while the fifth was initially expected to be the final season, in June, the show was announced to have a sixth season in the works.

Unknown Origins - August 28

This Spanish original film is an adaptation of a book about two cops who pair up with local geeks to catch a killer who is recreating superhero origin stories.
