Susanna Reid was accused of lying about her relationship history by Piers Morgan who made a public call for any tattooed military men she may have dated to contact Good Morning Britain with the “truth”.

Morgan grilled Reid on her love life as they discussed a study which found that people looking for love have a type.

Morgan mocked his co-star over her recent relationship with Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish, before Reid joked her “type” is an “ex-military, tattooed sleeve man” who is 6ft 2.

Refusing to drop his line of questioning, Morgan asked then accused Reid of lying after she replied “no” when questioned on whether she has ever had a “liaison” with her “type”.

Keen to get to the “truth,” Morgan made a public plea to anyone fitting that description who may have “had an entanglement” with the presenter.

He said: “Given we’re demanding honesty from public figures and you’ve made a categoric statement you’ve never had an entanglement with a tattooed military guy, if you are a tattooed military man who would like to contradict that, we’re on air till 8:30am. But don’t all rush at once.”

She later asked: “Why do we have to talk about my personal life in such detail?”

Morgan, who frequently jokes he is Reid's perfect match, revealed he is “not a big fan of tatts” to which she joked: “Thank God for that otherwise I might find myself irresistibly attracted to you. Let’s hope that never happens!”

Reid recently revealed she has split from Parish after nearly a year of dating.

She was previously with Dominic Cotton for 16 years. The couple, who split in 2014, have three sons together.

Good Morning Britain is on ITV, weekdays at 6am
