Piers Morgan spits out vegetarian Percy Pigs as he slams Marks and Spencers' recipe change: 'Leave our pigs alone!'

The high street chain recently removed gelatine from all Percy Pig recipes

Move over, Greggs, Piers Morgan has a brand new target in his anti-vegan crusade: Marks and Spencer’s much-loved Percy Pigs.

The Good Morning Britain presenter was outraged to learn that the high street chain has removed gelatine from the recipe for the pig-shaped treats, before spitting out one of the sweets as he tried them live on air.

“Marks and Spencer have a very popular sweet, one of the most popular sweets they did, called Percy Pig,” the 54-year-old explained, adding: “Here’s a shock to people, pigs are made of meat. So Percy represents a pig that’s made of meat.”

He then claimed that “the vegans have come to Percy,” telling co-host Susanna Reid: “It’s the fact that they have tiny bits of gelatine in them.”

“Not tiny little bits, I think they’re made of gelatine – which is from pigs,” Reid countered.

“So guess what, something that has a pig face on it actually has a bit of pig in it – wow,” Morgan scathingly responded. “So now M&S have got rid of all the gelatine so there’s no trace of pig in the pig sweets and now they taste – as fans have said – ‘like washing up liquid’.

“So they’ve completely destroyed Percy Pigs just to cater for a few vegans who don’t realise it’s a pig.”

While Reid slammed her co-host’s comments as “obtuse,” suggesting that by the same logic, jelly snakes should contain traces of real snakes, Morgan continued to become increasingly riled up, before yelling that “vegans and vegetarians” should “go and get your own sweets” made from “kale”.

“Go and get sweets that aren’t called Percy Pig,” he said, before adding: “Leave our pig sweets alone!”

Shortly after, the host reached for a sweet, believing it to be a gelatine-based version, then spat it out upon learning that it was a vegetarian product.

“Tastes like washing up liquid,” he said, alluding back to his earlier comment.

The presenter has made no secret of his aversion to plant-based diets, previously appearing to ‘throw up’ after tasting Greggs’ vegan sausage roll live on air.

Morgan also hit out at the high street bakery’s product launch on Twitter, branding the chain “PC-ravaged clowns”.

In March, the divisive host slammed Gordon Ramsay’s vegan roast dinner as “utterly revolting”.
