Love Island 'dimwits' slammed by Piers Morgan: 'My brain cells are about to get slaughtered'

Morgan joked the islanders will need to learn how to count in the series opener

Piers Morgan has branded this year’s Love Islanders “dimwits” and joked their first task will be to learn how to count to 10.

The Good Morning Britain host wasn’t shy in criticising the summer staple as he returned to screens on Monday ahead of the series five launch.

“Tonight’s challenge, they’re going to be asked to count to 10 and be asked to name their favourite colour and see if they can remember what they said an hour later,” he said.

“It’s going to be great fun, we’ll get the views of Love Island contestants on everything from Donald Trump’s state visit to Brexit. If you want to kill brain cells you know what to do – tune in and watch this lot of dimwits prancing about saying stupid things about each other.”

He finished: “Can’t wait for a summer of Love Island.”

Morgan, who previously branded contestants “cerebrally challenged” and “cretins,” later joked his brain cells are about to get “slaughtered” having only just “rehabilitated” from last year’s series.

But despite referring to this year’s 12 as a “contingent of brain dead zombies” he has thrown his support behind air hostess Amy Hart after she revealed Morgan was one of her favourite passengers.

“Amy has gone public by saying I was her favourite passenger,” he said. “She’s definitely got my support.”

He also placed a bet with Love Island narrator Iain Stirling, vowing to donate £1000 to mental health charity Mind if any of this year’s contestants’ couple up and stay together longer than January 1, 2020.

Twelve hopefuls will move into the famous Mallorcan villa tonight in a bid to couple up and win the £50,000 cash prize.

But only 10 will couple up, leaving two boys single and possibly up for a dumping.

Good Morning Britain is on ITV, weekdays at 6am. Love Island is on ITV2, tonight at 9pm.
