Despite being given a proper ending in 2009, Prison Break is being revived for a one-off series.

Following on the heels of The X Files, the drama-thriller show is coming back for a ‘limited event series’ in 2017, and now the first trailer has arrived.

Returning to the show is original star Wentworth Miller – which means that escapology expert Michael Scofield is somehow back from the dead.

The character had - SPOILER ALERT - seemingly passed away in the Season 4 finale, dying of a brain tumour.

So how are they bringing him back? It seems that’s a mystery that the show itself will tackle, but actor Dominic Purcell, who plays Michael's brother Lincoln, has told TV Line that it will be done well.

“The [concept] that I’ve heard is completely brilliant, so people will be fine,” he said, talking of Scofield’s miraculous recovery.

The trailer sees Lincoln receive a photo which hints that Scofield is alive – and, surprise surprise, behind bars again. That means Lincoln getting himself into the same joint in order to get him out.

Also returning is Sarah Wayne Callies as Lincoln’s partner Sara, who's coming to terms with the fact that her old flame and the father of her child might still be out there somewhere.

Fans will have to wait until early 2017 to find out exactly how it all plays out, when the show will air on Fox in the US.
