A discussion over shifting credit card debt caused an awkward moment in the studio

Ruth Langsford slammed her husband Eamonn Holmes as a ‘chauvinist’ on This Morning in a conversation over credit card debt.

The pair are hosting the ITV breakfast show in the absence of Holly Willoughy and Phillip Schofield.

In a feature around money-saving tips, Holmes said: “Here’s something I wouldn’t want to do, shift my partner’s debt to my credit card.”

Langsford appeared to take offence at the remark.

“That’s a very silly, chauvinist kind of thing to say, isn’t it?” she hit back.

“Because I don’t have any debt on my credit card. I pay my credit card every month so take that back right now.”

Sparking up a tense moment, Holmes said: “I would like to see the evidence of that darling.”

Money expert Martin Lewis soon interjected tp break the tension, shouting: “Enough of that!”

The topic of shifting credit card debt came as part of Lewis’ tips for couples to save cash in the run-up to Valentine’s Day.

It seems all was smoothed over later in the show - with the pair trying a 'romantic' dish of mussels together.

Eamonn and Ruth have taken over presenting duties for half term week while Holly and Phil are away.

The regular hosts faced off against Celebrity Big Brother’s Kim Woodburn in the studio last week, with the How Clean is Your House star hitting out at Schofield in an awkward interview.
