The comedy roast is making a comeback – and is now heading to the UK in Safeword.

A new panel show hosted by Rick Edwards, Safeword invites two celebrities into a studio to be mercilessly ripped by an array of comedians and each other, until they can’t take it anymore and have to deploy their ‘safeword’. Of course it’s all in good gest – although Sinitta slammed it as ‘vile’ after her appearance in Episode 2.

Taking the heat in Episode 1 are Joey Essex and David Haye – the former too daft to be bothered by mean words, and the latter more used to physical than verbal jabs.

Here are some of the harshest disses from TV’s snarkiest new comedy show.

Joey Essex

ITV

“You wrote an autobiography without being able to read […] Not since Mein Kampf have I been ashamed to read a book in public” – Katherine Ryan

“When I was told I was going on this show with Joey Essex, I thought it was going to be a remake of Rain Man” – David Haye

“There’s more testosterone in a tampon than you” – David Haye

“Joey Essex, ladies and gents, whose teeth are even whiter than the cast of a Richard Curtis film” – Tiff Stevenson

David Haye

ITV

“I don’t understand how you’re a vegan. Unless you’re eating vegans” – David Morgan

“Obviously you’re into adding lentils or chickpeas or pinto beans into your meals. So your diet is like your sex life: ‘anything with a pulse’” – David Morgan

“My grandad’s won more fights than you in Germany” – Joey Essex

“David, your surname is Haye – which is very appropriate, because like hay your career will end as horse****” – Andrew Maxwell

“You, a famous vegetarian, went [on I’m A Celeb]. You’ve often said you are what you eat, and I saw you on that show, and you ate an arsehole” – Andrew Maxwell
