Shipwrecked 2019: Everything you need to know as the hit reality show makes a comeback

The Noughties reality sensation is back - but can it fill the Love Island-shaped hole in our viewing schedules?

Noughties reality sensation Shipwrecked is back on our screens after a seven year hiatus.

Promising to fill the Love Island-shaped hole in our TV viewing schedules, the E4 show is staying true to its traditional Battle of the Islands formula, throwing together two groups of photogenic twenty-somethings on two nearby tropical islands and dividing them into two tribes: the Sharks and the Tigers.

Unlike its ITV2 rival, Shipwrecked isn't all about finding romance. Instead, when new arrivals are cast away onto the islands, the tribes will attempt to win them over to join their crew, as the biggest tribe at the end of the competition will take home a huge cash prize.

Here's everything you need to know about the newly rebooted show.

What happens on Shipwrecked?

A group of 'castaways' are dropped off on two idyllic islands in the South Pacific, where they'll take part in a series of challenges and attempt to win the allegiances of new arrivals, who'll have to choose between the Sharks or the Tigers.

While the first few series of Shipwrecked were presented as a social experiment, designed to focused more on the day-to-day struggles of the twenty-something islanders attempting to deal without home comforts, later seasons took a more structured approach, with regular arrivals and evictions, and it's thought that the reboot will follow a similar template.

Who are the Shipwrecked contestants?

Expect your usual crowd of reality TV wannabes attempted to make their mark in the increasingly oversubscribed pool of teeth-whitening #spon and Boohoo promo codes. Among the first islanders to arrive will be Harry, a 26-year-old model from London, trainee Marine Tom, 26-year-old wig-maker Tula (who goes by 'Big T'), English graduate Emma and self-styled 'influencer' Hollie. How will she cope without Instagram or wifi?

Other hopefuls introduced during the first episode are Liv, a 19-year-old waitress from Manchester, 20-year-old model Kalia, 26-year-old recruitment manager Kush, and 24-year-old events manager Chris.

Where is Shipwrecked filmed?

The show has returned to the Cook Islands, where first and fourth series were also filmed. According to The Tab, the islands are named Moturakau and Rapota.

What time is Shipwrecked on TV?

The first installment will make its debut on E4 at 9pm on January 28. Unlike previous series, the following 14 episodes will air on consecutive weeknights (inevitably prompting yet more Love Island comparisons) meaning that it'll last for three weeks and conclude on February 15.

Who is hosting Shipwrecked?

As there is no live voting element, Shipwrecked doesn't require a host like Love Island's Caroline Flack. Instead, broadcaster Vick Hope will be narrating the show. The former Strictly contestant has said that she "wash such a fan of the show back in the day on T4, and my friends and I would be so invested in all the tribal twists and turns on Shark and Tiger Island, so it's a real honour to get to have the first sneak peek." She's promised that the forthcoming series will provide viewers with "amazing characters, epic bombshells and lovely waves of nostalgia."

Shipwrecked airs on E4 at 9pm on January 28.
