Ever sat on the sofa watching The Great British Bake Off thinking, wouldn’t it be amazing to go into the tent and give it a go?
Well, with applications currently being accepted for Series 7 of the nation’s favourite baking contest, now’s the time to put those thoughts into action.
If you want to have your bakes judged by Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry, the process starts with an application form which can be found on the Great British Bake Off website.
As long as you’re a UK resident who will be over 16 years old at the start of February 2016, are not closely related to any Bake Off or BBC staff, and are not a qualified or ex-pro chef or baker, you could be starring in the 2016 series.
Applications don’t close until January 10 next year – lucky really, as the application form is decidedly lengthy. The casting team want to know a huge range of information, from your baking repertoire and your history of baking, to your proficiency at making different forms of pastry, and your history in TV or radio.
As for what they’re looking for in an applicant? The form states: “When selecting applicants for the Programme we will, amongst other factors take into account: skill, enthusiasm, drive and love of baking. We are looking for lively characters who are comfortable being filmed.”
Generally, applicants that make it through the first round are contacted for phone interviews.
Though the deadline is a long way off, the form does say that the sooner it’s submitted the better – so don’t delay, and be sure to include a huge range of photographs to show off your best baking triumphs.
