A technical error blighted the end of the show

This Morning has been criticised by viewers after accidentally playing a sample of a Meghan Trainor track over the introduction of a tribute to the late Professor Stephen Hawking.

After viewers complained on Twitter that the show hadn't paid tribute to the renowned physicist, who passed away on Wednesday, producers eventually aired a short clip in honour of Hawking's memory at the end of the episode.

However, the video was blighted by an editing gaffe which meant Trainor's hit song All About The Bass was played over the top of footage of the scientist.

Viewers were quick to point out the error on social media, with one writing: “#thismorning accidentally playing @Meghan_Trainor over a tribute to Stephen Hawking. What a mess! #RIPStephenHawking.”

While another said: “Fitting tribute by #ThisMorning with Meghan Trainors All About that Bass accidentally played to #stephanhawking tribute.”

“I hope Stephen would have found that funny, he was all about that bass! #ThisMorning,” mused somebody else.

Some even branded it the "worst tribute ever" as they complained about the show on their Twitter accounts.

Several also felt even the show's theme tune being played over the top of the remainder of the tribute was inappropriate.

Trainor is set to appear on the show on Thursday to talk about conquering anxiety.
