Graceful under water and adorably daft on land, penguins are widely beloved – but This Morning presenter Alison Hammond might not be much of a fan any more.

The host was nipped on the leg by one plucky bird during a live broadcast from Edinburgh Zoo.

Hammond reacted on air as the show cut to her immediately following the bite.

“Hello, literally before you just came to me, I just got bit by a penguin,” the presenter laughed nervously.

“Can I just check my leg, am I alright? Oh my god."

With the small adorable birds waddling around her, Hammond got in a bit of a flap as she attempted to persevere with the broadcast.

“I’m getting really scared if I’m honest with you,” she said as she tried to spark up a conversation with zoo worker Dawn.

“I have got to interview this lovely lady, she’s Dawn – one of the zoo keepers.

“But I am really, like, panicking now, I’m having a panic attack – do they normally bite like that?”

After the show, Hammond updated her Twitter feed with a photo of her confronting the biting bird, confirming: “He said sorry.”

While the bite itself wasn’t captured on camera, Hammond probably won’t be combining animals and live TV again in the near future.
