What’s that loud squealing you hear? Ah yes, it’s the response of the numerous fans of actor Tom Hiddleston reacting to the news that he has a nude scene in his new film.

The star, who made a huge impression as the villainous Loki in Thor and The Avengers, spoke on the Graham Norton Show about the decision to go naked for Guillermo Del Toro’s forthcoming original gothic horror film Crimson Peak.

“I was happy to do it,” Hiddleston said. “In many of these situations it is the woman who is more naked, and we wanted to re-dress the balance.”

Hiddleston was joined on the red sofa by Kenneth Branagh, who directed the first Thor film and spoke about his Thor star Chris Hemsworth’s topless scene in the film.

“I was a bit embarrassed when we came to do the scene in the movie when [Thor] takes his shirt off,” Branagh recalled. “I felt uncomfortable talking about how we would do it and how he might feel he shouldn’t. I even rang my wife to ask her and she said rather over enthusiastically, ‘Get him to take his shirt off!’ When I broached it with Chris he said, ‘Of course I’m going to get my bloody shirt off mate. I’ve been training for nine months for this thing!’”

Also on the red sofa this week were Robert De Niro, who spoke about a long-await film with Martin Scorsese (“It’s still happening”), Anne Hathaway, who recalled meeting Meryl Streep for the first time (“I was too scared to talk”), and British duo The Shires, who performed their song All Over Again live in the studio.
