The X Factor continued on ITV with its fourth episode to brighten your Sunday evening with more talented hopefuls.

Hot on the heels of a busy Saturday night, featuring impressive performances from Maria Laroco and teens Aaliyah and Acacia K , Sunday saw the return of a familiar face and a whole host of new ones.

The latest episode really sampled the best of the music genres we love from classic songs to opera and even some original songs thrown in for good measure all to try win the plaudits of Simon Cowell, Louis Tomlinson, Ayda Field and Robbie Williams.

Here are our five must-see auditions from episode four….

Soul sister: Burgandy Williams

Burgandy Williams

The 41-year-old 28-year-old singer made an immediate friend of Ayda, bonding over the Williams family name, and quickly became a hit with the other judges and the audience with her infectious personality.

Hailing herself “America’s best kept secret”, Burgandy, a Georgia native living in London, belted out Aretha Franklin’s Respect, earning her just that from the room as they applauded her voice before giving her four yeses.

Tommy Ludford

Armed with his guitar, Tommy performed original track Kingpin, inspired by himself as a way to put his persona into words.

The 20-year-old, from Sussex, impressed all four judges with his spirit and his talent, with Cowell even approving of an act with a guitar for once, declaring he “just got swang”.

Athena Manourian

Already something of an established talent on Facebook, boasting 70,000 likes, Athena – from Athens – travelled to the show in the hope of getting more fans in the UK because she loves it here so much.

The 24-year-old Greek songwriter performed high-energy track Crazy in Love by Beyoncé, backed by a dance troupe complete with raunchy dance moves.

Three yeses, with One Direction star Tomlinson labelling it “too much” and rejecting Athena.

Tre Amici

Before the three men from Hull got going, Williams decided he needed a break from the panel and replaced himself with his father Pete, who took his seat next to his daughter-in-law.

LeRoy, Martin and Richard performed Pavarotti’s Nessun Dorma, an incredibly hard song to sing and an even harder one to get right.

Cowell soon to put his hand up to stop the performance, telling LeRoy to sing alone. His friends stood back, allowing LeRoy to take centre stage with the powerful tune but LeRoy refused to stand solo and finished the song with his close friends beside him.

Made to eat his words, Cowell admitted he was wrong to try split them –after his “I did to prove you were better as friends” defence failed – and the trio were rewarded with four yeses.

Scarlett Lee

Scarlett, 20, made a triumphant return to the show after being booted out of the show during last year’s Six Chair Challenge, that cruel thing that viewers rail against each year.

Her first song, an original track called Survival, failed to hit the right notes with the judges and Cowell told her that he wasn’t sure she wanted to hear her sing again - but then he asked her to prove her place on the show with one last song.

Turning her efforts to The Greatest Showman ditty Never Enough, Scarlett got her four yeses.

The X Factor continues Saturday 15 September on ITV.
