X Factor fans slated Simon Cowell over the “worst ever” final which saw his four-year-old son Eric drop his debut single.

The music mogul, 59, was criticised after he revealed Eric is working for SyKids Records – a branch of Simon’s major label Syco.

Simon introduced his son as his “boss” before Eric’s band took to the stage to perform their cover of viral song, Baby Shark.

“This is Eric’s first release on SyKids Records,” Cowell said. “The record is available. Thank you Eric for now being my boss.”

Viewers were unimpressed with one tweeting: “This is the worst final I’ve ever seen (sic).”

Another posted: “@SimonCowell sorry Simon but that has to be the worst opening act that's ever been on an XFactor final. Maybe wait another 15yrs before Eric makes the decisions #XFactor #babyshark.”

A third wrote: “Robbie Williams clearly unimpressed with Simon Cowell using the final as a platform for his son to perform I’m with you Robbie #xfactor.”

All Syco profits from the single will go to charities Together For Short Lives and Shooting Star Chase.

The X Factor final saw Scarlett Lee, Anthony Russell and Dalton Harris perform their winner's singles in a bid to win the 2018 series.

Lee sang One More Sleep with Leona Lewis, Russell performed I Predict a Riot with Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson and Harris sang Power of Love with James Arthur.

The 24-year-old was rendered speechless as he was crowned champion. He received huge cheers from the crowd on wrapping up his performance as the judges struggled to make themselves heard over the roaring audience.

Ayda Field said: “Dalton that’s the sound of your future. I feel like I’m sitting at your concert and everyone else is supporting you.”

Simon Cowell told him: “I’ve heard lots of singles, but this was up there. It was spectacular.”

Louis Tomlinson, who is Harris' mentor, said: “That was a winner’s performance.”

Ellie Goulding, Nile Rodgers and Take That also performed with Robbie Williams.
