X Factor judge Louis Tomlinson has revealed that he is “excited” to have chosen his final six to mentor.

Tomlinson has joined Simon Cowell on the panel alongside Robbie Williams and Ayda Field for the new series, which stars on ITV later this year.

With the auditions out the way, attention turned to the brutal six-chair challenge to pick their hopefuls and Tomlinson has said that he is already looking forward to the next page.

Tweeting to his 32.9 million followers, he wrote: “Now I’ve got my final 6 I’m proper excited for the next stage! #XFactor.”

It has been rumoured that the One Direction star – who appeared on the show in 2010 – will be looking after the boys’ category this year.

The six-chair challenge sees the hopefuls sing their heart out for a seat in their category, but nobody is safe until the last person has sung because the judge has the ability to remove people from their seats.

However, it has been claimed that one hopeful in each group won’t have to worry about this pressure due to the new Golden X twist, which works in a similar way to a golden buzzer on Britain’s Got Talent.

A source told The Sun: “This year each of our judges has one Guaranteed Safe Seat to give away in this round.

“If the judge likes an act enough and they definitely want to see them at judges’ houses they’ll press this golden X and give that act a Safe Seat.

“This means the act cannot be swapped out of their chair and they’ll go straight through to judges’ houses.”

The X Factor will return to ITV later this year.
